The Cocoa Horizons Foundation employs a holistic approach to sustainable cocoa farming centered on three pillars:

Our strategy involves ambitious, time-bound commitments designed to tackle industry challenges and drive meaningful progress.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

We leverage collaboration and innovation by: 

  • Working with experts and pioneering partners to build on our collective strengths;
  • Utilizing knowledge from local partners to implement activities to accelerate change; 
  • Leveraging directly collected data to measure our impact and increase our efficiency; 
  • Adopting innovative solutions to increase our efficiency and relevancy: Yield Control, Farm Services App, Digital payments, Satellite identification.

We have a strong presence on the ground and proximity with the farmers and farmer groups: 

  • 1400+ coaches and workers are directly interacting with farmers; 
  • Cooperatives are supported with capacity building projects to achieve a more robust supply chain and provide better support to farmers; 
  • Moving to longer term contracts to increase security and encourage loyalty with cooperatives and its farmer members.

Continuous Improvement

We focus on continuous improvement by: 

  • Targeting the foundation’s expenditure towards the most needed and impactful activities. 
  • Piloting, learning and adjusting our program to deliver efficiently on our ambitions.

We help drive demand for sustainable cocoa by: 

  • Enabling our brand partners to engage with their consumers. 
  • Working with retailers to promote sustainable cocoa. 
  • Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
     

METHODOLOGY

The most recent methodology also takes into consideration: ISO-CEN criteria, some customers' standards and input from NGO’s on environmental and community aspects.
