GOVERNANCE BOARDS & FUNDING
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is led by a Board of Directors. The board selects a General Manager who is in charge of the Foundation’s day-to-day business and partnerships with contributors, donors, and implementing partners.
Fund allocations
The Foundation is funded through two main sources:
- Customer premiums paid for Horizons chocolate and cocoa products.
- From contributions by donors and partners who are inspired to support the mission of the Foundation.
The funds are allocated following an approbation from the budget by the Board for each financial year. The decisions the Board makes are firmly steered by the Foundation’s mission to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development.
The activities are implemented by Barry Callebaut Group entities. In Côte d’Ivoire, we also collaborate with Touton and Sucden to increase our impact.
Independent verification
The Foundation is independently verified. This verification and assurance process occurs annually. A third party verifies activities at different levels, including those of farmers, farmer groups, implementers, global Barry Callebaut offices, and the Foundation itself.
This verification also covers the flow of funds. The annual reports are publicly available.
